Senior Director - Medical Payer Strategy

Lead the development and execution of the USMA Value and Access Medical Payer Strategy (MPS) for each brand in partnership with USMA TA Head/Leads to enable key Healthcare Decision Makers (HCDMs) to make informed decisions designed to benefit their patient populations. Collaborate with TA Heads/Leads, HEOR, V&A, and Commercial to understand and address customer and business needs relevant to access to our brands through the generation of relevant scientific data and information. Deeply understand the current and evolving payer and access landscape and develop strategies to ensure that patients can receive our medicines as appropriate from a scientific and clinical standpoint. Deeply understand the various research methods which support access, including but not limited to RWD and RWE generation, and contribute to decisions regarding which research to conduct, and how the data should be interpreted and leveraged. Oversee/supervise the USMA Specialty, Neuroscience, and Eye Care MPS team members, ensuring they provide optimal strategic and scientific support to each brand.
Responsibilities:
Conduct ongoing analysis of clinical market, health care reform, and industry trends to develop key MPS strategies to meet business objectives; this includes global regulatory and compliance changes that affect the exchange of information with HCPs and HCDMs, field-based industry interactions with HCPs and HCDMs, and government disclosure and reporting Proactively analyze business needs working in conjunction with the internal stakeholders to identify opportunities where MPS can enhance business results while remaining fully compliant in a high-risk environment Represent Abbvie Value and Access at key scientific customer meetings/advisory boards, Advocacy groups, Federal and State Committees, and other relevant health technology assessment, government affairs, comparative effectiveness, and quality measurement agencies (i.e. CMS). Collaborate with Managed Care, Brand Teams, and HEOR in the conduct of payer advisory boards including but not limited to Managed Care Organizations, Medicare and Medicaid professionals and Pharmacy Benefit Managers, HTAs, etc. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders responsible for clinical development, HEOR, commercialization, public affairs and corporate affairs. Support HEOR in identifying third-party institutions or organizations collecting / generating relevant real-world information. Provide access guidance on medical projects, including data mining, with execution of key publications and appropriate dissemination of new medical, scientific and healthcare delivery information. Responsible for access-related input to the scientific development of Target Product Profiles (TPPs), Clinical Development and HEOR Research Plans and commercial strategies. Provide health policy expertise with respect to the evolving US healthcare environment. Leverage this expertise to impact Med Affairs strategies, including the access strategy, and to impact data generation plans. Lead the Specialty and Eye Care MPS team to ensure a coordinated Medical Access strategy across brands; clear direction and coaching around MPS expertise, delivery, and innovation; strong brand medical access support and execution; and effective cross-functional Medical delivery of data to support Access. Leverage TA resources and attend appropriate medical congresses and scientific forums of interest and payer meetings to maintain business and clinical knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas, including current treatment strategies, current and pending competitors, and new therapeutic developments; Ensures key insights from congresses and payer meetings are shared with appropriate internal stakeholders throughout the organization. Ensure incorporation of appropriate access-related data and information in Medical Education and other scientific exchange materials and forums. MD, DO, PhD or Pharm D Over 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical and / or managed care industry or in Public Health policy, in leadership and management roles. Greater than or equal to 3 years of direct people management experience. Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and to influence without authority. Previous roles in access and reimbursement organizations or governmental access and reimbursement positions or on access and reimbursement advisory committees / boards (e.g. Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee) required Strong scientific/clinical skills, strategic thinker, and problem-solving skills required Experience working in Medical Affairs highly desired with deep understanding of both the drug development process, healthcare landscape mapping, and pipeline commercialization model Clinical and Outcomes Research Design expertise highly desired Additional Information Significant Work Activities and Conditions:
